We made it!

Not like I didn't think we would -- but we've been married for a year now! Personally, I feel like our wedding day was yesterday. I can recall every single detail from my girl's bouquets, walking down the aisle with my dad, Melissa twirling in her dress, and Clay diving for the garter. If I could, I would relive that day every year and not change a single detail. It has become one of the most memorable days of my life and I am grateful to our family and friends for being there to celebrate with us.
Our original plans to celebrate our one year anniversary had to be adjusted. We were planning on staying at the new hotel built at Childress Vineyards and then have lunch and take a wine tour on our anniversary day. Well, I went to the website to book our room and discovered that the opening date had been pushed back to the end of October. So, we moved on to plan number two.

Andrew found a beautiful cabin in Ashe County for the weekend. We packed warm clothes, blankets, food, wine, and Miss Lou and then headed west! It was absolutely gorgeous. We had a whole cabin to ourselves with the most spectacular view. Getting up the cabin was a challenge though. We got a little stuck and started spinning tires and kicking up gravel. Our first attempt up the mountain wasn't very successful. Andrew had to put the car in reverse ... yes, we went down the mountain backwards. Once we got back down, Andrew put the car back in drive, gripped the wheel, and went for it. I was in the passenger seat with my eyes closed shut thinking, "We aren't even going to make it to our one year anniversary" and laughing hysterically. I knew if I didn't laugh that I would cry and I didn't think Andrew needed that as he was off roading in the Jetta. (Note to self ... find a 4 wheel drive for next time)

We had a very low key weekend and made it a point to enjoy one another ... we hiked, went to downtown Boone, enjoyed good food and wine (and beer for Andrew), and enjoyed the cool weather. Well, cold weather ... very cold weather.

Once we got back to Matthews it was time to have a slice of our wedding cake! We finally got to pull out the top layer of our cake that had been taking up so much room in our freezer! YAY!! And you know what? It was actually still good!

It's been a fantastic year and I'm looking forward to at least 50 more!
